One week until 30!

In exactly one week, I will turn 30. It could have been in 6 days, but my mom held out an extra 4 minutes so I would get my own birthday [because my uncle and grandfather were born on the 27th]. I was born on September 28, 1981 at 12:04 in the morning and occasionally call my mom and dad at that untimely hour if I am out celebrating - haha! :)

This year will be no different except for one small change in my birthday plans... I am more concerned about quality of people over the quantity of them at my party. In the past I would try to have a big party for the celebration, but more people is more work and there were constant let downs and/or drama. I think that is part of growing older. Life gets shorter and you want to make the most of it and spend it with the people that you love and who love you back.

This time my two sisters will be there, as well as my husband, best friend, and some of our best "couples" friends and various other local besties. There will be about 15-20 of us in a beach villa enjoying some frogmore stew, adult beverages and the beautiful Charleston weather.

Since my older sister and BFF are going to be guests in our fair city, we've got a whole weekend planned. Girls night out, spa, shopping, farmer's market, fancy dinners... I absolutely cannot wait!

Aqua, Gold, + Brown

Loving this color combination! It's in my living room and found its way into my wardrobe as well. I hope I love it for a while! [I hate repainting rooms - hehe]

Happy Birthday to my 11 year old niece, Maggie!

You are growing up so fast! So smart and curious and always up for a challenge. I love you and hope you have a wonderful birthday!

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

I will be HERE in one month!
Hacienda Del Mar | Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

My husband and I planned a nice little week-long trip to Cabo and we are looking forward to some much needed relaxation! We both had a busy summer so this will be just the ticket before we dive head first into the holiday season. I can't wait to soak up the sun!

Considerate Driving

"Don't cut me off! Loser!" I like to scream in my car at people who are being a-holes, and most of the time I end up feeling like I am the one who lost the battle...

This happens a lot when big accidents happen on the main thoroughfares of my commute. And this picture above is what happens EVERY time there is extra traffic on the little side road I take to turn onto the main road.

Assholes happen.

They are everywhere, I know, but what I do wish I could find out is why about 1 out of every 10 people thinks they are so entitled to cut off people who have rightfully waited for their turn at the stop light?

Rant Warning:
The stop light lasts roughly 4 minutes on red before turning green, at which point about 8-10 cars can get out. The line of cars is seriously backed up so far that you can't even see the stop light... yet people still go in that right lane and they know what they are doing, and we all know what they are about to do - CUT YOU OFF!

So here is a message to all those drivers:
You will NEVER get in front of me. I would rather rear end the person I am behind, rather than let you in since you cut about 40 people to get where you are going, and that is just not fair. Do you think we are idiots? No, it is called common courtesy and I am happy to report that most of the drivers have it, but you don't. So go ahead and be late for your fast food serving job and f-off. Thank you!

Product Review | Oil of Olay Pore Minimizing Scrub

Grade: A-
Cost: about $6
Buy at: Walmart, Target, CVS

I LOVE this cleanser! I finally found a good balance of light scrubbing, it actually foams up like soap [which I love], and it smells great!

If you follow my blog you already know that I have been trying to find a new over the counter cleanser [here] and I think this is the one I am going to stick with for now. My face feels smooth and clean and although my pores seem minimized for a while, it is only temporary.

I will post more once I have been using it for a while (true test of time), but so far so good!

Always Remember 9/11 | 10 years

I was in my sophomore year at Ball State in Noyer dormitory when my roomate Heather came busting in the room to turn on the television. She had been at class when she heard the news and ran back to see what had happened. I was blowing my hair dry to get to my upcoming morning class and we both just stopped and watched. Then the second tower was hit.

I was kind of in shock, not really knowing what to think. I didn't know anyone who lived in NYC and still to this day was not directly affected by what happened to the twin towers, but the overwhelming sense of patriotism in our country was never more apparent.

I even participated by putting an American flag sticker on my car, as it seemed everyone else had as well. I have gotten two new cars since then and neither of them has had a sticker... in fact you may be hard pressed to find one on any car you see driving along today.

What happened to our patriotism? I don't think it has disappeard, I just think a lot of people are upset with our government and the way the economy is going. I know I wish I was happier with it.  If people in Washington would just use their head and we could stop all the greed I think that would be a good place to start.

For all the families that were affected, the firefighters who ran in when so many others ran out, all the troops who defend and have defended our country, I just want to say thank you and God bless. May we never forget.

Chicken Coop for the Soul

Designed and built by Greencliff Landscape Co.. This is just the thing I needed to see to make me want to get some chickens! Well, besides organic eggs, of course.

I think my favorite part is the little purple door. It also appears that the corrugated material used as the roof may be translucent, letting plenty of light in. I love it!

Decisions are the Worst! ;)

Every Sunday I have to decide who I cheer for as the male lead in True Blood. Usually, I go for the good boy in real life like "Alcide" (Joe Manganiello's character on the right) - plus he isn't too bad to look at either! He was recently described as "6'-6" and as wide as a doorway" in an episode. Yummy.

...but sometimes I could be Mrs. Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard's character on the left). He is the bad boy type of guy you cheat on Alcide with... except I never cheat and Eric Northman never marries, and no matter what this is all fake and in real life I am married to a non-vampier/werewolf hottie whom I love. I just like to daydream ;)

Who would you choose?!?

Chitter Chatter

I am sure if you are 27 and out on a first date, with a FULL set of dentures, it isn't the first thing that is going to come up on your long list of "why you should ask me out again." That being said, if you are married to the person for over 3 years and your partner STILL does not know that you wear dentures, I would say that is a bit misleading.

That is exactly what my mother-in-law overheard while she was in recovery from an apendectomy. She saw a girl in her later 20s furvishly trying to convince the doctor to let her put her dentures back in before her husband could see her... because he didn't know she had fake teeth! SURPRISE!

Sure, I don't share all of my womanly secrets with my husband either, and I guess I just don't have anything that embarassing to share, but I can tell you that if I found something of that magnitude out ("Dude, where are your teeth?") about my husband I would be rather put out.

From Charleston, South Carolina to your computer. I hope you enjoy. :)
